Writes of Passage: Reading Travel Writing


Writes of Passage explores the interaction among a process of "othering" which tourists deliver to a spot, and the "real" geographical distinction they notice upon arrival. Exposing the tensions among the imaginary and genuine, Duncan and Gregory and a crew of major internationa participants concentration basically upon tourists from the 18th and nineteenth Centuries to pin down the imaginary in the context of imperial energy. The participants concentrate on trip to 3 major areas: Africa, South Asia, and Europe - wit the eu examples being drawn from Britain, France and Greece.
