Surprisingly little recognized, the Polish-Soviet battle of 1919-20 was once to alter the process twentieth-century background.

In White Eagle, crimson Star, Norman Davies supplies a whole account of the struggle, with its dramatic climax in August 1920 whilst the pink military - convinced of victory and pledged to hold the Revolution throughout Europe to 'water our horses at the Rhine' - used to be overwhelmed via a devastating Polish assault. on account that referred to as the 'miracle at the Vistula', it is still probably the most decisive battles of the Western international.

Drawing on either Polish and Russian assets, Norman Davies illustrates the narrative with documentary fabric which hitherto has no longer been available and indicates how the conflict used to be way more an 'episode' in East ecu affairs, yet principally decided the process ecu heritage for the following two decades or extra.
