In the small hours of the morning one fall day in 1866, a frantic widow visits detective Charles Lenox. girl Annabelle's challenge is easy: her loved son, George, has vanished from his room at Oxford. whilst Lenox visits his alma mater to enquire he discovers a sequence of surprising clues, together with a murdered cat and a card cryptically touching on "The September Society." Then, simply as Lenox realizes that the case can be deeper than apparently, a scholar dies, the sufferer of foul play.

What may well the September Society need to do with it? What specter, back from the previous, is haunting mild Oxford? Lenox, with the help of his committed buddies in London's top crust, needs to race to find the reality sooner than it comes trying to find him, and dangerously with regards to home.
