Her memoir, an extraordinary account of a normal girl, enlightens not only her childrens, for whom she wrote it, yet all posterity approximately her existence and neighborhood. Gluckel speaks to us with decision and humor from the 17th century. She tells of battle, plague, pirates, squaddies, the hysteria of the fake messiah Sabbtai Zevi, homicide, financial ruin, marriage ceremony feasts, births, deaths, in truth, of all of the human occasions that passed off her in the course of her lifetime. She writes in an issue of truth approach of the scary and precarious scenario below which the Jews of northern Germany lived. Accepting this case as given, she boldly and fearlessly promotes her company, her kin and her religion.
